Internet Links in Adobe Documents

If you have Adobe Writer to create PDF files you can also create web links within the document. This is handy if you are doing a newsletter that is posted on the Internet as those reading it will then be able to link to pages that contain information you may want them to know about, rather than having to write down the email or page URL (address) and take a chance of getting in wrong when entering it in their email program or Internet browser.

  • In the PDF document highlight the email address, web page link, or other words you want to link to the Internet.
  • Click on the icon in the toolbar that looks like a link of chain.
  • A new window will appear in which you need to choose the following information:
    Appearance
    Type: Invisible Rectangle
    Highlight: Invert
    Action
    Type: World Wide Web Link
  • Click on Edit URL
  • In the new window that appears you type in the email address as follows:
    mailto:anyone@anywhere.com
or the web page address as follows:
    http://www.anywhere.com
  • The links will not work if you do not put mailto: in front of the email address or do not use http:// in front of the Internet address.
  • Click on "Ok"
  • In the original window click on "Set Link"
  • Now as you scroll through your documents, your link will show a pointing finger with a small box on top of it containing the letter "W" and by clicking you will either be prompted to send an email or visit a web page.
