AutoCorrect in Word

  • Click on Tools > AutoCorrect.

  • This program is always operating in the background.

  • When you type a small letter where there shouldn't be one (i.e., I, at the beginning of a sentence), AutoCorrect automatically capitalizes it.

  • It also corrects spelling mistakes based on the list contained within the program.

  • AutoCorrect allows you to customize the Word environment as you type and to manipulate your text.

  • The dialogue window you see when you click on AutoCorrect contains common errors that are automatically corrected as you type.

  • You can de-select options you don't want.

  • You can also edit to add errors that you make often and have them automatically corrected.

  • In the left column type your common spelling error, and in the right column type the corrected version, as it should appear in your document.

  • Now AutoCorrect will automatically correct your error as you type.

  • Try this Exercise to see how AutoCorrect works. Type in the following paragraph with the mistakes and watch what happens on the screen as you type:
Teh bear is an animal that is veyr strong. They are wonderful creatures adn are to be admired adn respected from afar. As all animals, tehy should be appreciated adn respected in theri environment.
